Sounds of Nostalgia: StarTropics

Sounds of Nostalgia

Do we need an excuse to play old games? Hell no! But sometimes music from OSTs can inspire us to try new ones or revisit past loves like dirty, secret affairs.

Take a chubby boy named Mike, have aliens kidnap his uncle, stick him on an island with a yo-yo, and mix in a little tribal witch-doctoring and you’ve got StarTropics for the NES. With one of the most whacked out premises, StarTropics took the concept and made it as successful as it was memorable. Plus, Mike can travel from place to place in a submarine operated by a robot named NAV-COM. That’s, like, every kid’s dream. Or it should be.

From a weaponized yo-yo to ray guns, bosses like Octo the Huge and a giant C-Serpent that shoots fire from its mouth, StarTropics graced the console with its bold, fun adventure. Let’s go help some dolphins.
