Marvel Meltdown: November ’09

Marvel Meltdown: November '09

Today I bring you another Marvel Meltdown, complete with Moon Knight and villainous pals, a Spider-Man and Deadpool titan clash, and some wannabe X-Men. Good ol’ Osborn. He just wants to fit in … and make people forget about his Green Goblin phase. It’s just not gonna happen, Gobby.

Below are some teasers, but you can check out the whole article over at Impulse Creations.

“… The comic itself wraps up as riveting and dripping with sinister atmosphere. The gang of villains are colorful and radiate a delightfully old school feel …” - Vengeance of the Moon Knight #3

“You can buy the comic for the dry laugh track of jokes, but don’t expect much more than a quick skit.” - Amazing Spider-Man #611

“Cornell’s writing on the comic reads as mundane and uninteresting as the attention-deficit team … This oddball assortment of baddies isn’t intimidating anyone into submission.” - Dark X-Men #1

Marvel Meltdown: October ’09

Marvel Meltdown: October '09

New over at Impulse Creations is October’s Marvel Meltdown, featuring reviews of Dark Avengers #10, Mighty Avengers #30, and Dark Wolverine #79. As you can see, it’s an Avenger-licious edition, so get it while it’s hot. Mmmm … Avengery. Here are some previews, but you can check out the full article here.

“Mike Deodato matches Bendis’ writing, pairing the strange with the stranger and designing a fair share of panels whose art just might send a shiver or two up your spine.” - Dark Avengers #10

“Brace yourselves, because in the newest issue of Mighty Avengers Hank Pym (aka the Wasp) gets punched square in the face by a personified embodiment of the universe, Jarvis turns giddy with nostalgia, Hercules makes overly dramatic entrances and exits, and humanity’s latest threat is its own past: drooling Neanderthals, oh my!” - Mighty Avengers #30

“With a stiff and uninteresting plot that can barely keeps its head above water, Dark Wolverine #79 doesn’t do Daken and his plight any favors.” - Dark Wolverine #79

Marvel Meltdown: September '09

Another week, another Impulse Creations article. It’s time for my monthly Marvel Meltdown (I think I like alliteration too much, what do you think?), in which I review three comics that are coming out this upcoming Wednesday: Amazing Spider-Man #605, Thor Annual #1, and X-Men Legacy Annual #1. Below are some teasers, but you can read the full article over at the Impulse forums.

“With fun art and a nice balance of entertainment, Amazing Spider-Man #605 brims with the charm of a silly but sweet love potion.” - Amazing Spider-Man #605

Thor Annual #1 (writer Peter Milligan and pencillers Tom Grindberg and Mico Suayan) should be an emotionally invested issue, but it lacks that very crucial element.” - Thor Annual #1

“If you’re looking for a quality and well-balanced annual, X-Men Legacy has its moments, but it doesn’t rise above the mediocre.” - X-Men Legacy Annual #1

Marvel Meltdown: August '09

San Diego Comic-Con has come to a close (coverage starting tomorrow!), and it’s time for another monthly Marvel Meltdown marathon (whew)! This time the Hulk, Deadpool, and the Exiles smash together. Here are some teasers from my reviews:

“… Ed McGuinness draws a mean Norman Osborn, and his art fits Loeb’s writing like a good, durable pair of stretchy, purple shorts. If Bruce Banner doesn’t know who he is, then Jeph Loeb certainly does.- Hulk #13

“If you’re thinking of jumping in … well, just remember you might be jumping into lava instead of cool, refreshing water with Dr. Betty.” - Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth #2

“Maybe the lack of oxygen in the mastermind computer’s chamber went to the creators’ heads.” - Exiles #5

Marvel Meltdown: July '09

Nothing says Fourth of July like fireworks-colored light forms in Ms. Marvel #41, water fun with Namor and Norman in Dark X-Men: The Beginning #1, and a cookout with Louisiana backwoods natives in Punisher: Frank Castle #72. Find out which are the good, the bad, and the just plain ugly in a special Fourth of July-themed Marvel Meltdown over at Impulse Creations!

Things might be a bit out of whack for the latter half of July because of San Diego Comic-Con, but I plan to write two weeks’ worth of Impulse articles to submit early. I might not be around to let you know as soon as they’re up, but at least you won’t miss out on weekly content—and I’ll still get paid. Which is nice and stuff.

Marvel Meltdown: June '09

Advanced comics make my day, and even though you might not be blessed with such a privilege, you can at least find out which comics are worth buying and which aren’t worth that precious, Hulk-colored cash.

This month’s Marvel Meltdown feature over at Impulse Creations reviews THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ #7, MARVEL ZOMBIES 4 #3, and the X-MEN ORIGINS: GAMBIT one-shot—all of which come out this coming Wednesday. Ready, go!
