What did you think of the new DC/Warner Bros. Jonah Hex film? Rotten Tomatoes reports some painful critic calculations for the movie, but what about the recent Hex graphic novel, No Way Back? Check out my review of the OGN at OneMetal. Here’s a quick preview:

DC and Warner Bros. Pictures tore up the wild west with their misfire Jonah Hex flick, which stars Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, and John Malkovich. In anticipation of the summer snooze, artist Tony DeZuniga hitched a spot on Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti’s writing team, and together the three whipped out the first-ever Jonah Hex original graphic novel. Does the comic fare differently than its Hollywood counterpart, or does the gun-slinging vigilante take center stage in a story about as interesting as a colony of prairie dogs?

I’d choose those grassland rodents any day of the week. Jonah Hex: No Way Back follows the DC icon as he traipses across the Nevada landscape in search of his long lost mother Virginia “Ginny” Dazzleby, who resorted to prostitution after abandoning a young Jonah and leaving him in the hands of an abusive, drunken father. Recounting influential moments throughout the character’s past, the book eventually forces Hex into a standoff against the savage El Papagayo and his gang of Mexican bandits.

I’m actually quite fond of horror comics, which makes sense considering my affinity for horror in general—whether it’s Silent Hill or just a movie. So when I heard that Image Comics would be releasing not one, but two horror comics this spring, I got a little excited:

Whoa, did it just get cold in here? Image Comics recently announced two frightful comics for your reading pleasure this April. But spring is about Easter egg hunts, flowers, and chocolate candy rabbits, right? Think again: Rivaling Halloween, the seasonal change brings along zombies and the disturbing rabbit symbolism that only I and a few other pop culture oddballs seem to sincerely recognize.

First on April 14, creators Nathan Edmondson (Olympus) and Brett Weldele (Surrogates) collaborate with The Light, a five-issue survival horror (hm, that seems to be a theme lately) mini-series about a strange virus that corrupts anyone looking into an electric light. Gritty and full of action, The Light follows a handful of survivors, including a father and his blindfolded daughter, who manage to flee the town while the infected burn alive.
