The Historical Silent Hill

The upcoming Silent Hill title awaiting us, the town’s Historical Society will be receiving a boost in tourism.

Game writer Tom Waltz teased FearNet about the eighth installment’s historical twist, describing a tie-in, four-issue comic book that’s set in the 1800s and follows an outlaw named Jebediah Foster.

“I’m hoping that gets the fans going crazy and curious because the new game is a modern story and the comic take place in 1867. So we’re hoping people will be wondering, ‘How the hell can that happen?’”

Waltz confirmed that, with the script fully written, voice-acting for the game has begun. He’s also made fans a bold promise: “What I’ll say is, this is going to be a great game, and it’s going back to the core spirit, maybe people would point to Silent Hill 2. It’s character driven, it’s very dramatic, and I think it’s gonna rejuvenate the title.”

The writer assures gamers that the Silent Hill comics, like the games, aren’t throwaways, stating, “These comics they matter to Konami and they matter to the Silent Hill universe … Once ‘Team Silent’ disbanded and it just became Konami’s game but not the original creators’, the speculation was it’s just a franchise they’re milking and no one cares, but the truth is, everyone cares … Everyone on this team is a fan and cares what the fans think.”

What do you think? Are Silent Hill comics worth four bucks a pop? Can this new game, lacking Yamaoka’s or McGlynn’s grace, steer close to the high-esteemed Silent Hill 2?

No official word yet on the comic’s publisher, but I’m betting the company will stick close with their usual, IDW.

Kill Shakespeare: A Comic Jab and Literary Punch

Between watching films based on Shakespearian plays and writing papers on them every week this semester, logically you’d think I hit my poetic limit for awhile. Thanks to an email update from Kill Shakespeare co-creator Anthony Del Col, it looks like I have plenty multi-medium Bard goodness to enjoy. Over at OneMetal you can now read about the upcoming IDW series and watch the comic preview trailer (those things are neat).

Will you give Kill Shakespeare a try this April?

Peter David on Fallen Angel: Reborn

Interview with Peter David on Fallen Angel: Reborn

If you’re an Angel fan, chances are Illyria ranks high on your list as one of the television show’s best characters. Amy Acker’s impressive transformation from the sweet and bright southern gal Fred to the cold, dangerous demon goddess Illyria took us by storm in the final season. Unfortunately, we didn’t see nearly enough of Acker’s performance on screen. We mourned the lovable Fred at the same time we fell head first for Illyria. Boys drooled over her, and girls wanted to be her (I mean, just look at that awesome outfit, right?).

Like with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dark Horse Comics, the characters of Angel live on in new adventures from IDW Publishing. But now fictional master Peter David is introducing Illyria into a whole new universe—the domain of Bete Noire in his own comic, Fallen Angel: Reborn. If you’re at all familiar with the comic, you know that throwing Illyria in with the likes of Liandra is sure to stir up some controversy. But whether you read Fallen Angel or not, you might be puzzled about how Illyria could fit into a non-Whedonverse comic.

That’s exactly what I asked Peter David in my latest interview over at Impulse Creations. He gave a fantastic scoop on what the new four-issue mini-series has in store beginning this July, so you’ll definitely want to hop over there and check it out. It’s a good one, I promise.
