PoP! April 2010 Fangirl of the Month
Thank you so much to Lee Rodriguez and the rest of the wonderful Panels on Pages! crew for making me their April Fangirl of the Month.
You can read the full interview and see some fun pics (including my finished Hush tattoo) over at the website.
Here’s a quick teaser:
PoP!: You’re a pretty recent convert to the world of comics. What was it that gave you the bug?
Wita: I like to think that I’ve secretly been a fan of comic books all my life. Growing up, I couldn’t get enough of superhero cartoons, and as you can see from my list of top television shows, I still cherish them. The nineties Batman and X-Men cartoons were my favorites, and I remember rushing home from school to watch Batman Beyond when it was brand new. I still kick around words like “schway” and “slagged” for fun.
But my obsession with comics started when some friends and I went to a local comic shop, Joy’s Japanimation, one Free Comic Book Day in 2005. I remember how much I loved this one Tomb Raider comic I had picked up, but my passion never kicked into high gear until I watched Batman Begins one fateful winter evening a couple years later. Rediscovering my love for all things Batman, a friend passed along a stack of comics for me to enjoy. It wasn’t long after that when I began blogging my thoughts on television shows like Smallville and devotedly following all the Dark Knight hype. Becky Young, the founder of the Girls Entertainment Network, came across my blog and asked me if I would be interested in a position. I was a college freshman at the time, and I had no clue what to expect from such an opportunity. But the well-rounded staff and vision impressed me, and considering how much I could learn from them, something in my gut told me to just go for it. Little did I know how big of a difference it would make!
And no, this is not an April Fools’ Day prank! Promise!
