I write 2 sentences and I get 4 paragraphs in return, and you called me a dork :-P

Your writing a novel, you write more papers then a lot of people and you write on the side, in my world of smish-smash words english major writing major is like calling a cucumber a pickle, the same but different.

Only if it was an epic-ly awesome story will it ever make up for any poor gameplay frustration, but hey apprently not you, you play Megaman.

I AM reading this famed novel of yours write?
(See what I did there?)

A lot goes into a score. I usually follow Game Informer's rating system. A 7.5 places Homecoming in the range of Average to Very Good, which means while there's stuff SH fans have seen before, the game also provides innovation as described in my review. But that said innovation might not be for everyone, and obviously it's arguable (based on others' judgments of the game). So the rating actually works well for my review.

The graphics were fantastic, the voice-acting was better than usual, and for the most part the gameplay was great. And Yamaoka's music is always amazing. You have to take into account, Matt, a lot of different things when you're reviewing something, and here I found more pros than cons---thus it gets a "passing" score. Not to mention the problems weren't troublesome enough to seriously interfere with gameplay.

That's just review-wise. Personally, I loved the game, and it's the first one from my Gamefly list that I'm keeping. I say at least rent it; if you're a SH fan already you have to own it by default. But I really enjoyed it.

That picture doesn't do Pyramid Head justice. God, he looked so damn awesome.

I'm an English major, not a writing major. :p

PS: Thanks to reader Eric for pointing something out to me. I do love the psychological and intense stories of Silent Hill (go SH2! <3 ), so I suppose I wasn't being fair when I originally said no one played SH for the stories. It's obvious we do---they tie into the fearsome heart of the Silent Hill series. But in the review I meant that the stories have grown needlessly confusing/iffy as the series has progressed, so they've lost quality at the same time they've lost the feel of what makes Silent Hill so naturally frightening in the first place. Silent Hill 2 was the best psychologically, but otherwise, the only one I truly didn't like was SH4---freaky as hell, but the story was under-developed and they tried way too hard.

wow, frustrating gameplay and terrible audio and you gave the game a passing score based on story, the deal is sealed your a writing major for sure.

Given it may be only a look-and-see-what-you-can't-play-with moment but PH does look total badass in that pic.
